June 18, 2009    Chino Hills Little League end of Season Tournament and District 23 Tournament of Champions news....

District Tournament - Majors Division

Yankees 1 - Padres 0

Majors Yankees win over Upland National Padres 1- 0

With some great pitching from Jacob Botello who pitched a 6 inning complete game shut-out, the Yankees win over the Padres.  For the game, Jacob had 11 strikeouts while only allowing 3 hits all game!

Upland National's Zac Sturdivart also pitched a great game throwing  5 shutout innings with 10 K's.  Zac held the Yankees to only 3 hits.

The game came down to the bottom of the 6th inning with the Yankees Troy Cook as the batter.  With a base hit putting Troy at 1st, Scott Evinger was then walked.  This brought up C. J Corrales who was then hit by a wild pitch which loaded up the bases.  With Alex Baez at bat, he singled driving in the winning run giving Chino Hills the one run victory.

Way to go Yankees - keep up the good work ! ! !

AAA Division

Yankees over Rays 14-9

After playing two championship games, the AAA tournament winner was decided 6/16.

The Yankees win the AAA tournament with a score of  Yankees 14, the Rays 9.  This game was a battle starting with the first games in the end of season up to the end of the tournament.  The Rays really turned up the heat through the entire tournament, while the Yankees played through the loosing bracket to take the tournament in the end.

Throughout the tournament both teams played some precision baseball and we should all congratulate them on their performance now that their regular season is over.  Great Job Rays, and Congratulations Yankees - two great examples of Chino Hills Little League AAA Baseball ! ! !

AA Division

Rays take Mets in a 4-3 game

The AA tournament has now been decided.  No coin tosses, or time limits this time folks.  In a game that went four innings and  was tied up until the end it was a real nail bitter.  In the end, the Rays won over the Mets in a hard fought battle.  Both teams played the best AA baseball anyone has seen and we congratulate both teams for their play all tournament long.  The Mets had faced their challenges throughout the tournament proving each time why they continued to succeed.  The Rays didn't lose one game all tournament long, but up until the last inning of the Championship Game, no one knew what the outcome would be.  It was an edge of the seat, can't take your eyes off the game kind of game all the way until the end.  But in the end, the Rays came out victorious.

Great Job to both teams and congratulations to the AA Rays - job well done ! ! !

December 15, 2007 - A Message from CHHS Coach Kyle Billingsley

Chino Hills High School coach Kyle Billingsley took some time to share his thoughts regarding the advantages of playing Little League baseball...

Parents,

I wanted to take a minute to emphasize the importance of Little League baseball, specifically Chino Hills Little League. As a former Chino Hills Little League, Division 1 College, and professional baseball player, and now, for the past 10 years as a high school coach, I have experienced what works and does not work for the players whose goal it is to play at the next level.  The first step in baseball, as in any area, is the most important. This step is Little League baseball.

In the times of travel ball, multiple leagues, and various tournaments offered year-round to players at a young age, it is important that their first experience with baseball is a positive one. I have seen first hand the positive effects Chino Hills Little League has had on this aspect of the players' careers:

Positive atmosphere of fair play and good sportsmanship
Protection from over-use injuries and close attention paid to avoid burn-out at a young age.
A long history of established rules, guidelines, and traditions that work and prepare the players for high school baseball.
Chino Hills Little League managers attend coaching clinics put on by their feeder school, Chino Hills High, in order for the players to learn techniques and drills that will be used at the high school they will try-out for.
The chance to reach the Little League World Series, which many current and former Big League players played in when they were young
Over 80% of the players who have made the Chino Hills High School Baseball team have played Chino Hills Little League.

In the past 10 years of coaching in Chino Hills and as a resident of Chino Hills for the past 30 years, I have seen travel teams start and then fold, leagues branch off and then struggle to produce quality players. The only constant has been the Little League system producing the areas top high school players. These players did not burn out at an early age from over-use, or have their career cut short by a preventable injury. They were the players who understand the concepts of team, fair play, hard work, and dedication. Sadly, these concepts are becoming rare in the players entering high school while at the same time these are the qualities we are looking for in our Chino Hills High school players.

Some of the best childhood memories of most parents were from their participation in Little League. As a Chino Hills Little League alumnus, this is most definitely true for me. I encourage all parents to continue to support Chino Hills Little League baseball because it is the most important step in the young career of our players and helps put them on the path to success with us at Chino Hills High School.
